12.7 m Hydrofoil Electric Harbour Craft
In July 2023, Singapore’s MPA launched an EOI to develop full-electric harbour craft (e-HC), starting with 10–20 m vessels. The CAEV+ Consortium (including Seastel) proposed a 14 m carbon-fiber hydrofoil e-HC with 1033 kWh batteries, 25 knots cruise speed, and 90 nm range. Selected in February 2024 from among 11 proposals, the project will advance safety, efficiency, and local deployment, supported by financing schemes and a partnership with Singapore-based FEGT. The 12.7 m e-HC is an optimized design based on the range and draught requirements proposed by the MPA, effectively tailored to the actual conditions of the Port of Singapore.
Key Features
- Ultra-light carbon fiber hull with full battery driving
- Higher service speed of 20 knots with little wake in foiling
- Longer range of 50 nautical miles at service speed
- Smoother ride experiences with automatic flight control
- Lower Total Cost of Ownership with less energy consumption
Advantages
The hydrofoil e-HC could reduce the resistance by 35% at service speed 20 knots and 55% at maximum speed 25 knots, respectively, compared to the same hull shape without hydrofoils.
